Be a Nature Maestro!
SPEND A NIGHT IN THE RAINFOREST!
Kids, parents, and educators, use an iPad and your imagination to create and share a night experience in the Costa Rican Rainforest.
Build audio-rich scenes called “Soundscapes,” using Christine Walker’s colorful illustrations, and Dennis Hysom’s animal and nature sounds recorded at night in the Costa Rican Rainforest.
Compose, record, and share your unique Rainforest Night Soundscape using melodies, rhythms, and a two minute background ambience loop. Shake your iPad to erase your Soundscape and start again.
For the best audio experience, including stereo and panning, wear your headphones or earbuds. Pinch and zoom an animal to change its volume. Move an animal to the right or left to adjust its stereo effect. Use Compose to time when animals will sound in your Soundscape. For more fun, Record with Narration to mimic animal sounds or narrate a story about your Soundscape :)
Do you know what rainforest animal is nicknamed “big feet” or which frog lets out a loud piercing scream when picked up? To find out, listen to Dennis’s stories and fun facts about the rainforest. Rainforest Night provides environmental education, challenging memory games, and informational audio help for every button.
Animals and soundtracks in Rainforest Night include Boa Constrictor, Collared Peccary, Ocelot, Common Pauraque, Smokey Jungle Frog, Bare-throated Tiger Heron, Túngara Frog, Raindrops on Leaves, Heavy Rain, and Quiet Stream.
Email Dennis your most creative Soundscape ([email protected]). Each week he features a few on the naturemaestro.com website.

To bring Nature Maestro® Rainforest Night to life, 142 images were hand drawn by Christine, and 170 audio files were mixed and recorded by Dennis. All of the art is original and not clip art. All of the animal audio was recorded on location. A special thanks to Dr. John McCosker of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco for his assistance in reviewing the animal facts and scientific name pronunciations.
